Pilgrimage to Magdalena
Pilgrimage to Magdalena is a 30-minute film that documents the centuries-old, cross-border October pilgrimage of hundreds of people each year to Magdalena, Sonora, site of the Saint Maria Magdalena Church. The church holds both the remains of Father Eusebio Francisco Kino and a life-sized reclining statue of St. Francis Xavier, the informal patron of the Pimería Alta. St. Francis is honored in October each year with the largest religious pilgrimage and fiesta in Sonora. Click here to learn more about the film.
Frontera Voices
The border is often reduced to headlines and stereotypes. But beyond the news are millions of people building businesses, raising families, creating art, studying, and strengthening their communities every day. Launched in 2026, BCA’s Frontera Voices program exists to share the stories that help us see the borderlands through a more complete, more human perspective. Through interviews, short documentaries, photography, and community storytelling, we amplify the voices and experiences that define the borderlands of Southern Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. Our goal isn’t to tell people what to think, it’s to invite them to see the border through the experiences of those who live here.
