Let's Speak Spanish is designed to build conversational skills for beginning to advanced Spanish learners. Using a unique combination of entertaining videos, targeted learning tools, and intensive group conversation practice, Let's Speak Spanish can give a jump start for learners seeking real world conversation opportunities.
Winter 2024 Class Schedule: Registration Now Open!
Pronunciation Practice: 3 Days Feb 6, 7, 8. Mastery of pronunciation will help students at any level learn faster, speak better, and listen more effectively. During these three days, we will practice Spanish vowels, consonants, diphthongs, and syllable accent. As time permits, we also will practice cognates, or common words in English and Spanish. This class is highly recommended for all beginning students as well as intermediate students who have difficulties speaking or hearing Spanish. Registration Fee: $50 / $40 BCA Members. REGISTER HERE
Beginning Conversation: 8 Tuesdays Feb 13 - Apr 2. Designed for students with little or no previous experience with Spanish. This class will help you get a head start in learning Spanish by focusing on important everyday activities such as introducing yourself, making reservations, asking for directions, etc. The class also will include music, games, and listening exercises to strengthen your learning experience. Intermediate Conversation 1: 8 Wednesdays Feb 14 - Apr 3. Designed for students with some previous experience with Spanish , even if a little rusty. This class will focus on tested conversation techniques that will help you engage in real conversation. Using mostly the present tense, you will learn how to 1) describe people, places and things, 2) express wants and needs, and 3) ask and respond to questions. Intermediate Conversation 2: 8 Thursdays Feb 15 - Apr 4. Designed for students who have taken Conversation 1 or are familiar with the Spanish present tense. This class will expand on the previous class by focusing on important ways to talk about the past and the future. Using these additional tenses, you will learn how to 1) describe past events, 2) recall past remembrances, and 3) make plans for the future. Registration Fee: $120 / $100 BCA Members. REGISTER HERE
Advanced Conversation. 8 Thursdays Feb 15 - Apr 4. Designed for students who have taken Conversation 1 and 2 or the equivalent. Students should have a good understanding of basic grammar and be able to speak in the present, past and future tenses. For the winter of 2024, the class will read and discuss the novel Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) by Gabriel García Márquez. During the class, students will take turns reading selected passages from the novel, identifying new words and phrases used in the passage, and discussing the theme and meaning of the passage. The class will be facilitated by Gabriel Andrade, a professor from Aguascalientes and long-time facilitator with Let’s Speak Spanish. NOTE: In addition to registering for the class, students must purchase a copy of the book, which is available from Amazon, either in Kindle or paperback. Please also note that the class will be limited to 4 students. Registration Fee: $120 / $100 BCA Members. NOTE: the first session of the class at 4:00 PM is full, but you can REGISTER HERE for the second session at 5:15 PM. to 6:15 PM.
NOTE: All classes meet via Zoom from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM AZ Time (UST-7), except the Advanced Conversation class, which will meet from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. or 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM.
