What’s my Spanish level?
NOT SURE WHERE YOU FIT? HERE IS A BRIEF GUIDE TO OUR SKILL LEVELS
Beginner. A beginning student can speak and respond to everyday social greetings and convey personal information. The student understands the concepts of masculine/feminine and singular/plural and can construct phrases that agree in gender and number. (CEFR Pre-A, LSS Beginner)
Advanced Beginner. An advanced beginner can make simple descriptions using a variety of nouns and adjectives. The student can ask and respond to simple questions. The student knows several dozen common verbs and can use the proper conjugation in the present tense. (CEFR Pre-A, LSS Beginner)
Intermediate. An intermediate student can express wants and needs, likes and dislikes, abilities and intentions. The student is beginning to use more verbs, including reflexive verbs, but most conversation remains limited to the present tense. The student is starting to express opinions and respond to more complicated questions. (CEFR A1, LSS Intermediate 1)
Advanced Intermediate. An advanced intermediate can share past events and remembrances using the preterite and imperfect tenses. The student is comfortable using object pronouns in a variety of applications. The student can share hopes, expectations and plans for the future using the future and conditional tenses, as well as limited usage of the subjunctive. (CEFR level A2, LSS Intermediate 2)
Advanced. An advanced student is comfortable using a wide variety of sentences and common expressions related to work, leisure, and family activities. The student can share and explain a viewpoint on topical issues, including abstract concepts. The student is becoming comfortable using all verb tenses, including compound tenses, as well as the subjunctive and imperative moods. (CEFR level B1+)
Notes:
1. CEFR refers to the EU Common European Framework of Reference for language levels.
2. LSS refers to the language level obtained after completion of a specific Let’s Speak Spanish class.
