WELCOME TO THE BORDER!
This letter is an invitation to you to join us in discovering the beauty, challenge, culture and energy of the Borderlands. Whether you are stopping by our website for a brief visit, vacationing in Southern Arizona for a short time or a new resident, there is much to discover in this intriguing corner of the world we sometimes call “the Borderlands.”
Southern Arizona/Northern Sonora is quite unique in terms of history, language and culture. BCA’s focus centers around the Nogales region, two cities with the same name, one in Arizona and one in Sonora (“Sonora” is the name of the Mexican state south of Arizona). Even though divided by the US/Mexican border, the cities have much in common. Our goal is to bring people together on both sides, whether it is through our tours, through tennis or through deeper listening to the stories of the people. BCA offers ways for you to make a difference through your presence, your voice and your financial support.
Where to start? Our website includes a number of short articles and videos to acquaint you with the border region and BCA. We highly recommend taking one of our Cross Border Tours. These one-day ventures across the line into Mexico are a great introduction to the area. They are very popular so check your calendar and sign up soon through our new online registration system. You’ll also want to check out our “events” calendar to look for workshops, classes and breakfast gatherings. And if you like to read, we have a special introductory reading list for you to consider.
If Southern Arizona is your new home, we want you to feel “at home,” with greater awareness of the area for all of its beauty and challenges. If you are passing through, we can help you connect a bit more with this amazing region and its story.

Ambos Nogales (both Nogales) is a common name for two border towns of Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora. The town motto of Nogales, Sonora, is Juntos por amor a Nogales, meaning “United by the love of Nogales”.
We’ve put together this helpful guide with an introduction to the borderlands.
